Waseca is located in Southern Minnesota’s Lake Region. There are several nice lakes in the area, with two in Waseca. They are, you might say our “Crown Jewels”.

Clear Lake is the largest of the two at about 750 acres. It gets plenty of use, from fisherman to pleasure boaters. We also have a new trail around the lake and it’s got people using it biking or walking nearly all the time. Fish caught in Clear Lake include crappies, sunfish, walleye, northern, perch and largemouth bass. There are two new landings on the lake, one at Maplewood Park off U.S. Hwy 14 on the S.E. corner of the lake and also on the north at North Shore Park.

Loon Lake is on the west edge of town and is filled with panfish, northerns and bass. There is a nice park on the N.W. side of the lake with a rock jetty that people use to fish as well as several areas to shore fish. There is a landing on the south shore. There are no gas-powered, only electric motors allowed on the lake. You’ll see canoes paddling around now and then and there is a nice island in the center of the lake. The lake also has a nice sidewalk trail that gets plenty of use.

I publish a little weekly paper called The Southern Minny Buzz and grew up here and even worked a couple summers at Thompson’s Boat House as a kid. I fished nearly all of the area lakes, not as successful as some, but feel very lucky to have what we have here.

In “The Buzz” you’ll see a weekly section called “Buzz Outdoors”, where I muse about the fishing, hunting and generally what’s going on in my world. On my website (southernminnybuzz.com) which has a link below, you can read back issues and read reports from the likes of Terry “Ace” Sjoberg who guides up on Lake Vermillion and also link to the Minneapolis Tribune’s “Club Outdoors” which will give a statewide or more veiw into outdoors topics. There is also a link to Catch-n.com which is a fishing website that a buddy of mine started and holds my issues of the Buzz online.

You don’t have to travel far from Waseca to fish a nice lake. There are about 50 within a half hours drive. Check out my website and the local bait shops to see where the fish are biting and have some fun. Did I mention that we’re only about 20 minutes from Cabela’s.

Here’s my site….   southernminnybuzz.com as for the grammer and punctuation, I maybe wasn’t the best student.

Al Batt says it’s the people that make our area so special, the fishing aint bad either.   -Mike
