The Waseca Area Learning Center

The Waseca Area Learning Center (WALC) is dedicated to providing students a place where they can be engaged in meaningful learning that meets rigorous academic standards, become well prepared for posts-secondary experiences, and continue to take pride in the reputation for excellence at the WALC.

Most importantly, the WALC works to meet individual students’ learning style and needs.  Each student is provided with a Continual Learning Plan (CLP) that addresses a student’s learning objectives and experiences for the year, the assessment measurements used to evaluate a student’s progress while documenting the requirements for grade level or other appropriate progression in the student’s education.  CLP’s are re-evaluated each trimester.

Waseca Area Learning Center offers smaller class sizes, day, night and summer class options, programming and instruction is more hands-on and experiential in its approach, assistance with social and emotional issues, collaboration with social service and county agencies, teachers who focus on making special connections with their students, and independent study options available for students who qualify.

TEAM Academy   www.

TEAM Academy opened its doors in the fall of 2004.  At TEAM we focus on academic excellence, post-secondary attainment and a culture of respect and responsibility.  We individualize learning as much as we can during reading and math for our students.  Students are taught in small groups and participate in an individualized learning program on the computer.  This helps all of our students be challenged at their own level.

In addition to the core subjects our students get to experience art and Spanish classes.  We also offer an after school program to all of our students.  The program runs for an extra hour after the regular school day is over.  Extra-curricular programs offered to our students include student council and school patrol.  Fifth and sixth graders can participate in band and choir.  We offer a free extended day program from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

We were named a 2012 Award School by Minnesota Department of Education and a 2012 Blue Ribbon School by the federal government.  We have received the School Finance Award and the NEO Stewardship Award in finance.  Our school is authorized by Novation Education Opportunities.
