Waseca City/County

Located In the heart of southern Minnesota, the city of Waseca offers a unique blend of hometown hospitality, rich history and modern day convenience. Nestled between Clear and Loon Lake, Waseca was incorporated as a village in 1868. “Waseca” is a Dakota Indian word meaning “rich in provisions.” Waseca’s main street is lined with storefronts that years ago provided patrons with hitching posts for horses. Historic homes peek from behind stately, century-old trees. Quiet streets wrap around city parks and ball fields while the 1897 Courthouse still stands proudly as a reminder of our city’s
early beginnings.

Waseca serves as the county seat of Waseca County and a vital part of its heritage.  The city and county have a long tradition of partnership.  They have worked together on numerous opportunities to improve economic development, recreational facilities and water quality, to name a few. The county’s rich agricultural heritage complements the city’s emphasis on commercial and residential growth.
boy_bassAt the heart of it all, you’ll find a relaxed way of life. There’s a sense of escaping to a time when local business owners still greet you by name and evening strolls along quiet sidewalks with your family aren’t a thing of the past. It’s a rural, small-town pace where neighbors care about one another. Most of all, you’ll find a place where family and community are still the cornerstones; a place where what’s close to your heart still matters.
